Victims of Crime

If you are a victim of a crime and you have sustained an injury you may be entitled to criminal injuries compensation.

This is irrespective of whether the person has been identified, charged or convicted of the offence.  A claim must be made within three years of the offence but in some cases this time frame can be extended for example in child abuse crimes.

Under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act you may be entitled to claim the following:-

  1. Pain and suffering;
  2. Loss of enjoyment of life and loss of amenities of life;
  3. Loss of income;
  4. Medical expenses;
  5. Out of pocket expenses such as travel expenses or damage to clothing.

The amount you receive will depend on the nature of your injuries and the losses you have suffered.
